Shelton Preschool

Our Mission

The mission of our preschool is to offer a loving and secure environment while focusing on the academic and social skills needed to carry your child throughout their whole educational process and life!

Curriculum

The curriculum used at the Shelton Preschool is based on a number of factors: 1) WAKIDS-(The Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills  2) The guidelines set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, 3)Child Development Ages and Stages,  and 4) curriculum used in the Shelton School District.  We will engage in activities that encompass the whole child: cognitive, social-emotional and sensory-motor

The Preschool classes ( 2-4 year olds) Tues/Thurs:

Preschoolers are like empty boxes ready to be filled. Children of this age are beginning to exercise their independence while still needing the security of routine. We will explore the world around us by learning social skills, colors, shapes, sizes, beginning letters and numbers, and expanding our fine and gross motor skills. We will promote daily language experiences (circle, show-n-tell, and story time) to support literacy and language development. Hands on experiences will promote curiosity, self-direction, and confidence. Memory books are used to collect your child's work and capture pictures of learning.

The Pre-K Classes (4-5 year olds) Mon/Wed/Fri:

This is an important time in your child's life to prepare for school and to develop a love of learning.  Our Pre-K program promotes independence while preparing your child for kindergarten. We make the transition smoother by helping your child become familiar with an organized learning environment. Month by month we will work on social skills needed for kindergarten, letters and numbers, writing our names and words, drawing and cutting skills, learning expanded shapes (octagon, hexagon, etc.) as well as review our colors, basic shapes and sizes.  Whole group activities develop social skills such as language, sharing, listening, and cooperation.  Hands on experiences will promote curiosity, self-direction, and confidence. Memory books are used to collect your child's work and capture pictures of learning

PreK & Combo Classes: (mixed age groups) Meets everyday Mon-Fri:

This class is designed for the child who is ready to go to school everyday or is in need of more education time/help in getting prepared for advancement to the next level. Curriculum here focuses both on the basics learned in the preschool class as well as the more advance work preformed in the pre-k classes. Specific curriculum for each child is determined on the Individual age of each child in the everyday class.
